Dolce & Gabbana's Alta Moda Returns to Sicily in Mythic Splendor

Dolce & Gabbana’s Alta Moda Returns to Sicily in Mythic Splendor

Where Gods and Goddesses Walk Among Us

There are places on this earth that seem to exist outside of time—where the light falls differently, where beauty feels less like an aspiration and more like a birthright. Taormina, Sicily, is one of them. And for Dolce & Gabbana, it is nothing short of sacred ground.

It was here, in 2012, that designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana first unveiled Alta Moda, their couture universe rooted in the marrow of Italian culture. And it was here, on a Monday evening in July 2026, that they returned for what may be the grandest Alta Moda presentation the house has ever staged.

A Botanical Eden at the Foot of Mount Etna

The Radicepura Horticultural Park was transformed into a mythical stage set for the occasion—its lush botanical gardens amplified with even more flowers in quintessential Dolce fashion, all framed by the brooding silhouette of Mount Etna in the distance. Before a single look emerged, a voiceover unfurled across the garden like a prayer:

In this story, the goddesses represent the dream. The devotees embody life. The goddesses descend from Olympus. The devotees await them on earth. And it is precisely in the encounter between these two dimensions that the magic of Alta Moda is born.

It was a declaration of intent—theatrical, uncompromising, and utterly intoxicating.

A New Generation Opens the Show

Leading the dramatic procession was Léonie Cassel, the 16-year-old daughter of Monica Bellucci and Vincent Cassel, who appeared in a tulle ball gown adorned with a garden variety of flora, including a bouquet of blue baby’s breath. It was a breathtaking debut, one that instantly set the emotional register for everything that followed.

Her mother, Monica Bellucci, was one of more than 300 guests in attendance, seated alongside the likes of Christian Bale and Jennifer Lopez—a front row as cinematic as the collection itself.

Sicily, Stitched Into Every Seam

The Sicilian landscape remained a constant, almost devotional source of inspiration throughout the collection’s staggering 99 looks. Floral intarsia unfurled across substantial skirts with the lushness of a Renaissance still life, while citrus-hued embellishments and gilded embroidery paid homage to one of the island’s most celebrated exports: lemons—and, naturally, limoncello.

The silhouettes were unapologetically theatrical, but the craftsmanship was every bit as commanding. Fringe-trimmed opera coats with plush collars were layered over velveteen evening gowns featuring Fortuny-inspired pleats. As seen during Paris couture week, the waist remained central to the narrative: pannier silhouettes, some exaggerated with cage-like constructions at the bust and shoulders, evoked the glamour and romance of La Dolce Vita in its most cinematic sense.

A Finale Fit for the Gods

The show closed with a processional quartet of gowns—rendered in aquamarine, sherbet, crimson, and light blue—each more opulent than the last, with lavish handwork and cathedral-length veils that moved through the garden like whispered vows. As the show notes themselves declared:

At the heart of this collection is a devotion to beauty.

It is a statement that could serve as Dolce & Gabbana’s eternal manifesto.

A Three-Day Extravaganza of Italian Couture

The runway spectacle marked the second chapter of a three-day extravaganza. The celebration began with the unveiling of the house’s latest high jewelry collection and was set to conclude with Alta Sartoria, Dolce & Gabbana’s menswear couture counterpart, on Tuesday evening.

More beauty, more drama, more Italy. Put simply, that is Alta Moda—a world where opulence is not a luxury but a language, and where Sicily will forever be its mother tongue.
